The Saturday market in Saint-Martin-de-Seignanx
Updated on Thursday 8 October 2026

On Saturday mornings, the centre of Saint-Martin-de-Seignanx comes to life around its market on Place Jean Rameau. It is about 500 m from the studio, a 7-minute walk, so there is no need to take the car.
The Saturday market
The market runs every Saturday from 8 am to 1 pm. It is a small, traditional market of local produce: poultry, fruit and vegetables, jams, pastries… Stalls vary with the seasons. It is the perfect place to stock up at the start of your stay and cook in the studio's kitchenette.
A few regional specialities to look out for at markets and in local shops:
- Basque sheep's cheese, traditionally eaten with black cherry jam;
- Bayonne ham and other local charcuterie;
- seasonal fruit and vegetables from nearby growers;
- gâteau basque, a Basque cake filled with custard or cherry.
A real village atmosphere
This is not a tourist market: it is where locals do their weekly shopping. Come early in the morning for the best choice, and expect a friendly "bonjour" at every stall; a few words of French go a long way.
Shops in the village
Around Place Jean Rameau, the village has the essentials: a bakery and pastry shop, a pharmacy, a newsagent, a florist and a few restaurants and takeaways. Opening hours vary from shop to shop; many small French shops close on Mondays or over lunch.
For a bigger shop, the Super U supermarket on avenue de Barrère is right next to the village centre, also about 500 m from the studio (a 7-minute walk).
Getting there from the studio
The market, the shops and the Super U are all about 500 m away, a 7-minute walk. Your car can stay in the studio's free parking space.
